At the end September 2026, Stephen Müller retired from Overstrand Municipality as the Director of Infrastructure.
In 1988 Stephen obtained a master’s degree in civil engineering. He initiated his engineering career with Africon Consulting Engineers, where he spent 17 years gaining valuable experience in structural engineering, the development of information management systems and infrastructure asset management.
In 2006 he joined Overstrand Municipality as Director of Infrastructure and Planning, the position he has held up to his retirement.
Stephen collaborated well with other municipal functions, assisting with other initiatives, outside of his normal duties. For example, he served on an Advisory group of the United Nations in developing a “Making Cities Resilient” Campaign. Locally he served on various Western Cape Provincial task teams as well as the Water Research Commission Reference Group.
Over the past 20 years Stephen contributed greatly to the planning, development and management of Overstrand infrastructure. He always followed the latest trends to monitor and optimise infrastructure performance. His expertise and dedication have contributed to the many accolades Overstrand have been awarded during his tenure.
Overstrand Municipality went through many administrative and leadership changes over the past 20 years, but always benefitted from the one constant, Stephen’s steady leadership over these often-difficult transitions.
Stephen, on behalf of the Hermanus ratepayers, we want to thank you for your excellent contribution to the development and growth of our wonderful town. We wish you the best for the years ahead. Enjoy your travels and time with your family.
Kind Regards
Tobie Louw on behalf of Hermanus Ratepayers Association.
