Meet the team

Our dedicated team of HRA Executive Committee members are all volunteers who give their time, energy and expertise freely in the interests of a better Hermanus.

Brian Wridgway

I was born and raised and schooled in Johannesburg. Having had holiday jobs in retail it became my chosen career. I spent 20 years at Woolworths followed by a period running my own hardware business. In 2007 I joined Massmart in a managerial capacity until my retirement in 2017. In 2014 my wife Lindy and I relocated to Hermanus from Cape Town. I was invited to join the HRA in 2018 and became chair shortly afterwards. My interests are birding, photography and woodworking.

Anne Stern

I’ve had a long career as a lawyer, doing litigation and family law, then more than twenty years as a specialist intellectual property attorney. One notable highlight of my career was representing the South African wine industry during the “Port and Sherry battle” against the European Union in Brussels. In addition to my legal credentials, I hold a doctorate in literature and philosophy. Within our community in Hermanus, I contribute as a volunteer tutor at the Overstrand Learning Hub.

Aloma Jonker

I am a strategy consultant with a background in agriculture, marketing and finance with a passion for preserving the heritage and natural beauty of the unique area we call home. I recently returned to South Africa from Canada where I gained valuable experience in conservation and environmental management. I am acutely aware of the importance of the natural world with respect to both the economy of Hermanus and the mental and emotional health of its residents.

Jenny Howard

Jenny, our longest serving Exco member, boasts extensive expertise in management and community service. She gets things done while maintaining a low profile.

Arlene Ross-Smith

I became a part of the Exco team at the end of 2016. Initially I was asked to join as an Afrikaans speaking person to assist with the translation of minutes and documents. Later on, I became involved in representing the Exco on the Baboon Liaison Committee, attending regular meetings with concerned participants. I came to realise how vital a ratepayers organisation is in facilitating communication and collaboration between the community and local government.

Christine Hibberd

I am a true Afrikaner, born and raised. Following the Afrikaans tradition, my family has been visiting Hermanus since my early childhood, and now I proudly call it my permanent home. My commitment to community service led me to work in the fields of HIV and TB. Road running is my passion, closely followed by the joy of climbing and hiking in the mountains. My heart has a special place for all creatures, with Poodles holding a particularly dear spot in it.

Elizabeth van Niekerk

I started my professional career in 2000 as production coordinator in the international film production industry.  After qualifying as a physical therapist,  I embarked on the adventure of traveling the world while working as a therapist onboard luxury cruise liners. When home beckoned in 2010, I decided to settle in Hermanus, my home away from home since early childhood. I entered the tourism industry as business coordinator and currently work as a virtual executive assistant.

We are recruiting! Let us know if you wish to serve on the Exco ([email protected]).
